You can get around this by changing the BASH shell's IFS variable or using the find command, but its an annoyance and a lot of people don't know this, so it can cause problems. If any of the mp3 files matched by that wildcard have spaces in their name, it will cause the filename to be broken up into sections instead of the whole. Spaces cause problems for people who want to use the command line in advanced ways such as in for loops like this: for file in *.mp3 do mpg321 $file -w - | oggenc -o $.ogg - done For instance, if you have a file called "A picture taken in Winston-Salem, NC.jpg" and you want to convert the spaces to underscores, then you can preserve the hyphen in the name and retain its meaning. But since hyphens might show up in other ways such as hyphenated words, you'll have more success in preserving a name value by using underscores. Underscores are usually the convention that people use when replacing spaces, although hyphens are fine too I'd say. ![]() My recommendation is to use underscores instead of spaces. ![]() The camera also allows for pictures to be taken whilst filming is in progress. ![]() ![]() In a first for Marvel, all six episodes of the show will premiere at the same time. Sydney Freeland (“Reservation Dogs,” “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”) and Catriona McKenzie (“The Walking Dead,” “Shining Vale”) are directing. Also among the cast: Chaske Spencer (“Wild Indian”), Tantoo Cardinal (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Devery Jacobs (“Reservation Dogs”) and Cody Lightning (“Hey, Viktor!”). The show is the first standalone superhero series about a Native American character.Īs such, the central cast of the series is made up of indigenous actors, including Zahn McClarnon (“Reservation Dogs”), reprising his role as Maya’s father, and Native American acting legend Graham Greene (“Dances With Wolves,” “Wind River,” “1883”). Only time will tell!Īs Variety first reported in March 2021, Alaqua Cox will star in this “Hawkeye” spin-off series as Maya Lopez, a deaf Native American superhero who can perfectly copy her opponents in battle. One tantalizing possibility, however, is that with the MCU split into all kinds of variant realities, several of Loki’s dear departed family, friends, and enemies could reappear back into his life - from his beloved mother Frigga (Rene Russo) to his murder victim Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). Production is expected to start on Season 2 in mid-2022, with Season 1 writer Eric Martin penning all the episodes and “Moon Knight” directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead directing the majority of the episodes. One possible clue: He Who Remains’ formidable variant Kang the Conqueror will also almost certainly factor into whatever happens - so the question is whether “Loki” Season 2 would stream before or after Kang’s previously announced appearance in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which is set to open in July 2023. That’s one heck of a cliffhanger! While Marvel did immediately announce that “Loki” is returning for Season 2, we do not yet know when the show will return, or who, beyond Hiddleston, is set to reprise their roles. By the end, Sylvie fractures the timeline into the multiverse by killing He Who Remains, after she boots Loki into another reality entirely, one in which his TVA bff Mobius (Owen Wilson) doesn’t even recognize him. In the Season 1 finale of “Loki,” the titular god of mischief (Tom Hiddleston) and his female counterpart - and first true love - Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) confront the mysterious mastermind behind the Time Variance Authority, a man known as He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). Here is everything that’s in store - that we know about. There are also several more titles in development, including a show set in the Kingdom of Wakanda and a second “WandaVision” spin-off featuring Paul Bettany’s Vision (or his ghostly doppelgänger).Īnd after the debut of “What If…?”, multiple animated titles are on their way to Disney+, including Marvel Studios’ first swing at “X-Men” following Disney’s acquisition in 2019 of 20th Century Fox. On Disney Plus, we’ll see adaptations a “WandaVision” spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn a revival of Netflix’s “Daredevil” series and a “Wonder Man” show with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The downshift also means that several live-action and animated titles that had initially been announced to debut in 2023 have been pushed to expected releases in 2024 - or off the schedule entirely.įurther on the horizon: sequels to “Captain America” with director Julius Onah, and “Deadpool” with stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy as well as long-anticipated reboots of “Blade” with actor Mahershala Ali and “Fantastic Four” with director Matt Shakman. Marvel is finally starting to slow down, however, with merely six releases - three films, and three Disney+ series - inaugurating Phase 5 in 2023. That’s also dramatically accelerated the pace of Marvel’s storytelling: When the Multiverse Saga - which is currently set to span at least 37 titles across feature films and TV series (live-action and animation) - concludes in May 2026 with “Avengers: Secret Wars,” it will have spanned roughly half the time as the Infinity Saga. ![]() The abrupt explosion in Marvel content is a direct result of the launch of Disney+, of course, and the mandate to populate Disney’s streaming service with a regular pipeline of episodic TV series within the MCU. Then, over just two years, Marvel Studios released 17 movies and streaming titles in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the first act what studio chief Kevin Feige has christened the Multiverse Saga. ![]() From 2008 to 2019, Marvel Studios released 23 feature films in the three phases of the Infinity Saga, the most ambitious cohesive storytelling endeavor ever mounted by a single studio. I didn’t appreciate this until I had occasion to study Ansel Adams’ 16×20 personally hand-printed images for lengthy periods. They are abstract and may only be related to reality in form and detail. ![]() Other than some high key and low key photographs and a few low-contrast compositions, the strongest B&W photographic images are graphics with light, middle and dark tones, like pen & ink drawings, pencil sketches, and charcoal sketches. The Nature of B&W Images and Principles for Creating Them But, before covering this, a summary of the principles that lead to successful B&W photographs will be most helpful. Over the past six months I reviewed my 800 best digital files to see if any of these could be converted to strong B&W photographs, and by chance noticed several new features in Lightroom Classic that enabled excellent control in selectively adjusting different tones to produce the strong graphic impact that most successful B&W images require. But, I stopped making any serious B&W images thereafter.Īnd a third irony is that it took a pandemic to get me back to B&W image-making, simply because I was trying to satisfy my desire for producing fine images at a time when, like so many others, I was not able to travel far from home to take new ones. Ironically, it was color print photography that frustrated me during that same period because the two types of photography are entirely different arts, and each must be deeply understood in order to produce exceptional images.Īnother irony is that I learned what makes really good subjects for color images and how to edit them successfully since I switched exclusively from film to digital cameras in 2002. Nevertheless, I had my occasional successes once I understood the graphic nature of B&W and other monochrome image-making. ![]() ![]() And while I greatly admired Ansel Adams’ work, I never came close to his brilliance. I spent 50 years developing B&W film and prints in the darkroom. Some do provide thumbnails indicating the likely results for using pre-determined profiles.īut, if a photographer does not understand the art of selecting the right scenes in the field, looking for the right kind of lighting, selecting the right type of files for conversion, and how to edit digital files to create impactful B&W images, the results will be disappointing more often than not. In general, the problem with commercial conversion software programs is that they don’t teach the art of pre-visualizing B&W images pre-capture, or prior to selecting files for conversion. Amazingly, my preferred method is Lightroom Classic for reasons that I will soon explain. There are a number of software programs that facilitate this conversion like Silver Effects Pro II, many of which do a credible job, and which I have used in the past. But, by far, the greatest number of B&W images are made through the conversion of digital color files to B&W files. Surprisingly there are a number of young people like my grandson who use vintage roll film cameras and silver-based film to make silver prints in the darkroom.
